Long ago and today.... Thanksgiving study

What a fun week we had last week!  We started out on Monday learning more about the Native Americans who lived in Michigan, at Blandford Nature Center.

The rest of the week was spent learning more about the pilgrims and Native Americans and comparing their lives to our lives today.  Then on Friday we celebrated with games, crafts, and our very own feast!!

A big THANK YOU to the parents who helped serve and clean up with the feast!  God's blessings overflow!!!

A peek at last week in pictures...

A peek at independent workers...  Often when the kids are working independently they choose their working spot.  We have gotten really good at finding spots and tools that help us when we are writing and reading.  Such focused workers... I don't think they even knew I was snapping these pictures.  ;)

We learned more about the wind last week.  We put what we learned to the test by flying paper airplanes with and against the wind.  The kids were pretty excited to explore and ask questions and test out their thinking when it involved throwing airplanes.  :)

We had our first Mystery Reader on Friday and we can't wait to have more!  Now dressing up is not an expectation of the mystery reader... but it added to the fun!

Scarecrow Making...

A big THANK YOU to the moms who came and helped make the scarecrows on Friday!  the kids had a great time working together to create them!  They are really proud of their fall pals and would love for you to check them out in the coming weeks (they are right in front of the office).  Here's a peek at the process:

Shining Their Light...

Here is a look at our Serve Day on Thursday.  Our morning started in the gym with a prayer of blessing.  We took off for the American House from there with our backpacks filled with books, pencil box, and a card for the grandpas and grandmas.

We first sang with the residents and then shared books together.

After that we colored allowing the kids to talk about their week and how they are learning to be Strong in the Lord.

Then we played some BINGO altogether.

The kids were filled with BIG smiles and so were the grandmas and grandpas!  We will continue this friendship with a more activities throughout the school year- even a date where they will come and visit us in the classroom!
